  • Co-founder & CEO

    Alex has over 15 years’ experience delivering renewable energy and zero carbon technology including work for some of the most prestigious clients in the country.

    Alex has extensive experience in construction, CDM and EPC contracting involving the design, installation and maintenance of a wide range of technology.

    Alex can advise clients and their representatives in the private and public sector and in the commercial and agricultural space. The types of services he offers include strategic advice and feasibility studies, procurement, project management, connections to funding solutions and grant sources and access to some of the best brands in zero carbon technology the market has to offer.

    I wanted to leverage my skills and experiences to create a business which would make a positive contribution, and have a genuine sense of agency.

    As COO I work to make sure that everyone can be as efficient and effective as possible.

    Having started out with a BEng in engineering, then CIMA, and finally an MBA I’ve got a broad set of skills to support the business, and the people, from a start up to a more established business.

    I’ve always been passionate about sustainability, energy efficiency and living within the planets means.

    I enjoy supporting clients in their transition towards a net zero future from first concepts through to implementation, ensuring measurable success against their sustainability ambitions.

    Starting with a deep understanding of client aspirations, we undertake technical analysis and commercial viability to put forward recommendations that add real value. We ensure these are realised through offering procurement and project management services, supporting clients through handover and beyond.

    I work with organisations to identify and optimise energy efficiency measures and develop tailored renewable energy solutions.

    My technical insight, strategic thinking, and collaborative approach guides projects from initial feasibility through to successful implementation, resulting in our client's acheiving energy control and financial savings.

    I am driven by a passion for sustainability and am excited by the opportunity to contribute to clients’ energy resilience and decarbonisation.

     I work across a variety of projects within the consultancy team to provide clients with bespoke energy solutions to suit their specific needs.

     I use my detail-oriented and hard-working character to accomplish this, along with my technical foundations as a mechanical engineering master’s graduate.

  • Electrical Consultant

    I’m motivated by helping people from all walks of life to realise their energy needs and how to make them more efficient, which in turn supports our future and the environment.

    I spend time with clients to understand how they use energy, now and in the future. I use this to build an understanding of how to deploy and optimise renewable technologies to get the best economic, and environmental improvements.

    My background as an electrician and property developer gives me the technical know-how to design renewable energy systems that make the most viable impact to our client's bills while also improving their green credentials.

  • Non-Executive Director

    Peter is co-founder and Managing Director of Bath & West Community Energy, Deputy Chair of Community Energy England and a trustee of the Centre for Sustainable Energy. He is co-chair of the BEIS ministerial advisory group on community energy.

    Peter has worked in the sustainable energy field and on community energy for over 35 years, having led the early development of the Centre for Sustainable Energy as Chief Executive, where he originally started in the mid-eighties working with schools and communities. Since resigning from CSE in 2002 due to family illness, Peter has worked as an independent advisor on a range of energy efficiency, renewable energy and fuel poverty projects for various government, private and voluntary sector clients, with a strong focus on community action.

    Within my role as a Consultant for Empowered Projects, I am able to have a positive impact on the environment and local community.

    As part of the Community Energy team, I work with a variety of Community Energy groups to develop community-owned renewable energy projects including rooftop solar PV, ground-mount solar, wind turbines and battery storage.

    My experience in project management, coordination and logistics allow me to develop these projects from site-finding all the way through to successful commissioning.

    I wanted to turn my passion for renewable energy into tangible impact by helping communities take control of their energy future while simultaneously reducing our impact on the planet.

    As a graduate consultant, I support the team in delivering community energy projects throughout the pipeline from first contact to powering on.

    I have a strong technical foundation gained through completing a master’s in climate change science and policy, which equips me to deliver community-led energy projects that deliver real local benefits.

  • Senior Consultant

    John is a renewable energy engineer and project manager specializing in community-owned renewable energy.

    He has been involved in the renewable energy sector for 30 years. Prior to joining Empowered, John was Development Director of Energy4All, supporting the development and operation of community renewable energy co-operatives across the UK. During more than 15 years with E4A, he worked on wind and ground-mount and roof-top solar projects. He was the E4A representative on the boards of 5 E4A co-operatives. John now supports a wide range of Community groups on large scale projects.

  • Senior Developer

    I have worked in the energy sector for over 15 years, working for the public, private and third sector organisations. I have a particular interest in local and community energy, and I wanted to work in a role where I could put my broad range of skills and experience to good use.

    As Senior Development Manager I support our clients to progress renewable energy projects from an initial idea through to construction.

    I am an experienced project manager with a strong understanding and experience of the energy sector, from policy to practice. I use my experience from the practicalities of renewables asset management, through to the design and set up of government funded low carbon energy programmes to support individuals and organisation to bring their project to life.

  • Community Engagement Coordinator

    Anna is Empowered’s community engagement coordinator, and is responsible for coordinating local consultations, surveys and events relating to renewables projects in development, as well as liaising with members of local communities to help answer queries and build support for projects.

    Anna brings a wealth of experience from finance, the building materials sector, translation, teaching and acting. She has a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Durham University, and is passionate about empowering local people to take part in the energy transition.

  • Senior Developer

    Michael has been working as an environmental planner in the energy sector for three decades, principally on large infrastructure projects across the UK, but also local and community scale. His key capabilities include: knowledge of regulatory and planning policy for renewable energy; spatial resource mapping; planning risk reviews and site appraisals; feasibility, design and EIA; consenting and permitting; and stakeholder engagement. His experience has led him to act as lead consultant on schemes on a range of consenting regimes, including NSIP, Section 36, DNS and TCPA, across all devolved nations and even in the RoI.


    Michael is committed to the local and community energy sector. He is the current chair of Bro Dyfi Community Renewables, and former inaugural board member of Community Energy Wales. He has provided instrumental planning support to a large number of community energy organisations across Wales, including Awel Aman Tawe, Transition Bro Gwaun, Ynni Teg and Cwm Arian, is now working on several community energy projects across the south-west.


    Michael has been an active proponent of the clean energy sector ever since his years living on the sinking islands of Kiribati in the Pacific Ocean, witnessing first hand the effects of sea level rise. Alongside his professional work, he manages a newly created, self-planted 8-acre woodland and has been working on woodland creation and restoration projects across west Wales.

    I wanted to work at a company with a commitment to creating a tangible difference.

    As the intern, I help the consultancy team with a wide variety of projects.

    I am currently completing a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Sheffield; working at empowered gives me a chance to apply the knowledge I’ve learned on my course as well as learn new skills!

    Since joining Empowered, I have embraced a dynamic range of responsibilities, including site feasibility studies, stakeholder engagement, and programme management.

    With my technical expertise and dedication to sustainable development, I aim to demonstrate the immense value that renewable energy brings to communities. By collaborating with like-minded individuals, I strive to contribute to the energy transition and create lasting positive change for both people and the environment.
