Case Studies
The Brownsword Hotel Group
Overview
Andrew Brownsword Hotels operates 13 high-end hotels across the UK, ranging from historic properties to modern city hotels. As part of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Phase 3, they sought to identify energy-saving opportunities to reduce consumption, lower costs, and comply with energy efficiency regulations.
Challenge
The client needed to conduct comprehensive energy audits across selected hotels to assess energy use and identify potential savings. Specific challenges included:
Historic properties with outdated energy systems.
A mix of fuel types (gas, electricity, LPG, oil) across sites.
High energy intensity due to varying building types and uses.
Solutions
Energy Audits: We analysed energy usage, reviewed data, and identified areas to make the biggest efficiency impacts.
ESOS Compliance: Helped the client meet ESOS Phase 3 requirements through actionable recommendations and documented savings.
Project Planning: We proposed a phased implementation plan, focusing on low-cost improvements first (LED upgrades, BMS adjustments) and long-term investments (ASHP, PV systems) for maximum impact.

Conclusion
Gidleigh Park: Projected savings of 40.27% (361,549 kWh/year), equivalent to approximately £53,068/year and a reduction of 78.93 tCO2e/year.
Abode Chester: Projected savings of 33.81% (362,107 kWh/year), equivalent to approximately £68,388/year and a reduction of 59.66 tCO2e/year.
Next Step Guidance: Implementation of recommendations, with ongoing monitoring and ESOS compliance verification.
